Version française ci-dessous
4 September 1978, Leuven, the home-town of Stella-Artois! That's where I begin, son of a Swiss father and a British mother. Leuven also hosts one of the countries largest universities and my father manages a book shop downtown.

In Belgium, there are two main languages, Flemish (kind of Dutch with an accent) and French and a bunch of them in the east speak German. As in the legend of Babel the end up not understanding each other and the Flemish kick out the French who go and found there own university, built from scratch in the middle of nowhere country-side, Louvain-la-Neuve, New Leuven literally.

It turns out to be a business opportunity, so as I am one year old that’s where we move to. Already on the road…

Childhood is spent there with brother and sister, then in Namur and finally Liege, home-town of Jupiler the other major Belgian lager… ends meet…

Holidays are also spent on the road, visiting the family in the UK and Switzerland as well as a couple neighbour countries, but never much further. The thirst to go further is there…

After finalising a pretty chaotic school path, I chose a job learnt at church: audio engineering! At 15, as I stepped into the sound control booth and saw those pieces of gear full of the knobs, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Initially I wanted to be an airline pilot, but society has decided they don’t want colour blinds to do those kinds of jobs... So I still got all the knobs and touring with bands is something that will get me on the road.

While doing my apprenticeship in a touring company, I first started with lighting… and its array of colours…! But that’s the path to professionalism, do all the jobs within an industry to learn the tricks of the trade.

After completing the apprenticeship, eventually also learning the audio part of the business, as well as managing the construction workshop and managing daily operations, I went to Sound Engineering high school to improve the theory of the field-gained experience. Then into the trenches as a free-lancer, touring Europe with bands, as well as designing systems that would improve efficiency and safety in daily operations.

Parachuting and sailing where the two activities I would do when not on the road…

As the need for travelling further around the world remained I was looking at selling my skills into the Cruising industry, hosting shows aboard the ships’ theatres. But one day as was carrying out sound check at a local festival I received that call from a recruiting company offering me a job as Audiovisual Manager for one of their clients newly signed venues, a 5-star hotel in the south of France.
